My Advice to High School Seniors

Senior year is a big deal. Trust me, I’ve been there and lived it. There’s so many different components to it, it can easily be overwhelming. I know it was tough not only for myself, but also for a lot of my friends. Now seeing some of my younger friends nervously start their senior year, I decided to share my best advice for all the rising seniors out there!

Stay Organized

It’s so easy to get stressed during your senior year, even from the very beginning, and trust me, you’re going to be stressed. Between college applications, financial aid forms, and balancing regular school work, you’re going to have a lot going on. If you’re going to want to keep track of it all, you’re going to need to get organized. Use a planner or your digital calendar to write down all of your upcoming assignments, deadlines, and due dates to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Jump Outside Your Comfort Zone

It’s easy to stay home and just worry about all your work, but there’s so much more than that to the final few months of high school! It’s likely to be the last few months with classmates you’ve known for most of your life, so go out on a good note! You don’t need to go to every party, or any parties for that matter, but at least try to go to the pep rallies, spirit events, and special days designed for the graduating class! Although they may not all be all up your alley, at least try it to say you tried.

Embrace the Moment

High school is supposed to be the “best four years of your life.” While the four years may not be the best, they should still be enjoyable. Going back on the last point, you’ll want to have fun memories from high school, so remember to still be present, even while you’re looking forward to college and all the exciting things that are yet to happen. You have so much time after you graduate to think about college and the future, so keep your mind where it is now!

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

There’s going to be a lot going on, and not everything is going to work out exactly the way you want it to. After all, a lot of the college application process is out of your hands. Even when things seem like they’re going all wrong, regardless of what it is, everything happens for a reason. It may seem really hard to handle at the moment, but a bigger picture is in the works, and you’ll be much happier with your final result than you could have ever imagined.

Be Prepared for a Big Change

This is the end of your high school life, and you’re about to have a big transition when you get ready for college! Even though everyone will be trying to finish high school in the best way possible! So, some things might change. You might lose contact with some of your friends, you might lose interest in some of your gen ed high school classes, you might even start to doubt yourself more than usual. Should you worry about the change? Not now, live the final moments to the fullest, knowing it won’t last forever. High school is entirely what you make of it, so make it great!

See ya real soon,
